Inthe novel was published in an English translation as with a modified ending. They were not intended to be read by anyone other than myself.

Besides her literary works she also got involved in politics, and raised money for the development of the battleship Almirante Grau.
Matto de Turner was baptized Grimanesa Martina Mato, but was called Clorinda among her friends and family. This story, though readable, isn’t nearly as good as the very similar Huasipungo by Icaza which I’d recommend over this any day.

If you are at all interested in 19th-century Latin America, this book is worth reading, if only to consider the passion with which Matto attacked the hypocrisy and corruption of the three powers ecclesiastical, executive, mayto.
She became very familiar with indigenous culture, and the more she learned, the more she embraced it.
