Right up front, the authors introduce the idea of metalanguage – the stock, polite phrases – we use to cover our true meanings. Quite a good book, it gives you some hints about communication tricks and methods but I find the style used too american!

A great old read. He is quite well known in Australia and during the s he was an occasional TV analyst for political debates where he would analyze the body language and overall performance of the contestants. I used my knowledge of metalanguage, combined with another of their epase, asking open-ended questions to start conversations with people I hadn’t spoken to before.
